Mobile app (Nexus/H)
United Studios partnered with Honda’s creative and design agency Nexus/H to provide technical and programming support for this innovative app. A complex build, both for iPhone and Android, the app has several interactive elements which make use of the smartphone's native features including; a "wind tunnel" experiment where the user is prompted to blow through the mic; 360 degree view on the car's interior via the accelerometer and a bespoke QR scanner. Additionally a game demonstrates the Honda's "Magic seats" system and an "Explore Models" section allows users to create their own Civic, choosing model, engine, grade and colour and then share with friends via Facebook, Twitter or email. In total 38 apps were produced (iPhone and Android) as localised versions were required for each market across Europe.
Digital Outdoor campaign site (DLKWLowe)
Creative agency DLKWLowe asked us to partner with them to produce their award-winning concept for digital out of home. As members of the public pass digital screens they are encouraged to donate by text. Once a donation is made the screen returns a personalised thank you message and the screen visual updates with a batch of coins falling into place to make up the portrait of an African woman their donation will go to help. At the same time, the donation data transfers to the website and it displays the last donation made. Additionally the site allows people to search for their donation and see the portrait they helped to complete. They can then share via Facebook, Twitter and email.
Marmite Recipe Finder
Facebook app (Splendid)
Partnering with Splendid Communications we designed and built a Facebook Recipe App for Marmite. The app contains all the official Marmite recipes and allows Marmite lovers to submit and share their own ideas. In addition we also built a CMS to allow Splendid to add and edit new recipes in addition to moderating user-generated content before it goes live.
Facebook app (DLKW Lowe)
Workng with DLKW Lowe we developed an app celebrating Thorpe Park's 10th anniversary of their now legendary Fright Night. Users are invited to interact with a short video to help blow out candles on a birthday cake with fright. Using the mic and webcam means reactions are recorded and can be played back. A gallery and share functionality via Facebook and Twitter completes the experience. You can try for yourself until 31st October!
50th anniversary campaign site (Ogilvy & Mather)
Working with Ogilvy & Mather and our friends at disturb media we created the campaign site for the WWF’s 50th Birthday campaign. It highlights the positive impact that small changes in purchasing have on different areas of the planet. The site takes users on a visual journey around the world. We made special use of Bing maps and wireless locations to pinpoint the exact journeys that were being made. These journeys were then all mapped out at once and became a great piece of digital art in their own right.
Social Media Apps
United Studios built several Twitter and Facebook apps for More TH>N. Talk to Me was a complex video sync hosted on Facebook which let users ask More Than Freeman any question they wanted. The Help a Heart Twitter app used thousands of profile pictures, of people who pledged, to build a huge mosaic. This mosaic then updated in real-time on a microsite so users could see it change as people made their pledges.
Event site 2010 (Podge Lunches)
United Studios came up with a 3D theme for the site and then built this gloriously retro Flash site with accompanying print and paper engineered collateral for the event. You’ll need 3D anaglyph glasses to get the whole picture.
United Studios designed and built two promotional microsites for retailers Schuh and JD Sports. Both sites included exclusive downloadable music tracks and interactive competitions with users able to win vouchers and concert tickets. To support the campaign we also designed and built supporting ads and CRM emails.
Desktop app (Universal)
United Studios was asked to design and build a desktop game to promote the release of Despicable Me. Users had to train and employ Minions to build as many machines as possible, all the while sharing their interactions over Facebook. The user with the most machines at the end of each week would win great movie related prizes.
Sony 3D HDTV
Online advertising (Anomaly)
United Studios developed the creative and built an interactive ad toolkit for the launch of the Sony 3D HD TV. The work took on the difficult task of bringing the 3D viewing experience to life in a 2D environment. United Studios provided all the post production, 3D animation and visual effects for the toolkit really showcasing the 3D capabilities of the new TV.
Website (Publicis Modem)
United Studios was the technical consultant for, and produced, the Renault.tv website. The site was built on the Zend framework and featured an AMF Flash gateway and bespoke bandwidth profiling. All the content on the site was integrated with the Renault CDN and controlled by a CMS that we’d built.
